Description

Horse Care emphasizes the care and maintenance of the partnering horse in equine facilitated activities and therapy and to do so in a cost effective manner. It provides the biological basis for making management decisions regarding nutrition, designing and implementing disease and parasite control programs, care of teeth and feet, recognizing lameness, selection of the horse for appropriate therapy activities, how conformation affects way of going, behavior, and physical conditioning.  Design and care of facilities is included.

Continuing Education

Successful completion of this program earns the participant a certificate of attendance from Texas A&M University and 60 professional development hours or 6.0 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) appropriate to program content.

CEUs:

  • Are nationally recognized units earned for participation in qualifying continuing education programs
  • May be used for professional advancement or as evidence of increased abilities, but not for college credit.

 

 

 

Instructor Bio

Dr. J. Warren Evans, author of the book, Horses: A Guide to Selection, Care and Enjoyment, brings to the program his 35 years of experience teaching introductory through advanced graduate level horse production program. He has conducted many short programs and lectures to horse owners and users giving him a practical understanding of the audience needs. Dr. Evans taught the Horse Care & Management program to horse owners for UC Berkeley Continuing Education in a face-to-face setting for five years. A past president of the Equine and Physiology Society, he is also the author with A. Borton, H. F. Hintz, and L. D. Van Vleck of The Horse.
