Equine Facilitated Internship FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there internships for all tracks of the Equine Facilitated Activities Therapy (EFAT) program?
No. Internships are only available in Horse Care (care of horse partnered with in therapy), Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy, and Therapeutic Riding. Each track is designed very specific to each your goals and objectives.
How do I set up an internship?
- You contact the internship director to determine learning objectives, timeline for the internship, how far you can travel, and identify a host facility if you do not already have one in mind.
- You, in consultation with the director, will identify an appropriate mentor or supervisor who will act as a co-instructor for the internship process.
- The director will identify or contact a facility close to you that has the appropriate expertise to help you.
- The director then will work with the host facility to provide specific and track-appropriate experiences for you.
- The Continuing and Professional Studies Office will develop a contract to outline expectations of you, the facility, and how much it will cost.

Please email Dr. J. Warren Evans at jwarrenevans@aol.com.
Are there any prerequisites to obtain an internship?
Yes, you must have completed the online introductory class in the track that corresponds with your desired internship. For example, if you want an internship in the Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy track, then you must have completed Introduction to Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy prior to the internship.
Is there any academic work involved such as tests or written reports?
No. This is professional development (not-for-university-credit). The internship does require you to write a paper about your internship experience.
How long does the internship last?
It varies. The duration of the internship is determined by your goals and how fast the host facility feels you can accomplish them.
How much does it cost?
Each internship is unique. The fee is determined by your desired learning outcomes, the host facility supporting your internship, and the level of coordination needed to arrange for the internship.
